Us (2019) dir. by Jordan Peele

There’s a lot I can get into about this movie, but I’m sure a Google search will hit all the highlights that I loved blah blah blah. I want to tell you about what fucked with me the most.

“You could have taken me with you.” It’s sad when she first says it, but when we get the final reveal, holy hell. Days later, I was at the grocery store and remembered the raspy, “You could’ve taken me with you.” Driving to work, it hit me again. Brushing my teeth. It was like I was grieving. I was grieving with Lupita about what might have been, what maybe didn’t have to happen, what could have happened instead. Would any of it even have been possible? “You could have taken me with you.” This is what it means to be haunted by a movie, a character, a sentence. The stare-at-a-wall-and-contemplate-your-humanity of it all is damn near overwhelming. Jordan Peele managed to haunt me by having me grieve a reality none of us even got to see. 5 stars.
